Team Inks 7'0" Centre Ronald Delph
(Tuesday, October 8, 2019 - Moncton, NB.) If there was one significant void to fill from last season's championship roster, Head Coach and GM of Player Personnel Joe Salerno would be quick to tell you it was in the team's front court. The Magic took one step closer to filling that void earlier this week with the recent signing of 7'0" Centre Ronald Delph.
It was no secret, with the departures of Nick Evans, Joel Ndondo, and Freddie McSwain Jr., who all received oversea contracts this summer, the Magic were going to have to find some new talent for their front court this off-season. Salerno feels he may have found a big piece to that puzzle in Delph.
"Ronald is a talented big man. He had a very solid career at FAU, and his numbers there prove he is only getting better with each season that passes" commented Salerno. "I think he is just starting to scratch the surface of his full potential, and has all the makings to be a very good pro. He has great hands for a guy his size. He can step out and knock down a jumper, and certainly is capable of protecting the rim. I look forward to working with Ronald this season, and I know he can bring a lot to the table for us."
Delph, who hails from Winter Park Florida was named to Conference USA's 2018 ALL-Conference Third team in his senior season at Florida Atlantic University, when he averaged 14.4 points, and 8.7 rebounds in 29.4 minutes per game for the Owls. He finished his FAU career third in school history in both rebounds (636) and blocked shots (168).
Last season, as a rookie, the 26-year-old Centre spent time in both Estonia, and Lithuania, where he competed in the Basketball Champions League. He now looks forward to a new challenge in the National Basketball League of Canada.
"I am really excited about signing with the Magic and am looking forward to the season" commented Delph. "I'm just ready to get to work."
Delph marks the 13thplayer the team has announced in advance of their training camp, which is scheduled to kick off November 15th, at Crandall University. Salerno is planning on bringing 16 players to camp in total, including 7 returnees from last years NBL Championship team.
