(Moncton NB: March 17, 2018)
The Moncton Magic hosted the Cape Breton Highlanders on St Patrick's Saturday night at the Coliseum for their second last home game of the regular season.
Already guaranteed a playoff spot, the Magic entered looking to hold their 2nd place seat, while the Highlanders, desperate for some wins, still hope move out of elimination in 5th.
After an early run by the Magic who ended the first 26-14, things heated up significantly in the second resulting with the home ream up just 43-41 at half.
That intensity was maintained on both sides for the remainder of the game, seeing Moncton with a slight edge for most of the 3rd, then Cape Breton a large portion of the 4th. In the last five minutes the Magic took the reins, reeling in their energy and making the best of every possession resulting in the 96-86 victory.
Al Stewart was at the center of the Magic's late efforts; he picked up every loose ball and directed the offense to their lead. Al was awarded Player of the Game for his 13 points, as well as 5 rebounds and an assist.
Malik Story took care of most of the offense for Cape Breton; finishing the night with a 10-rebound 26-point double-double for the visiting Highlanders. Tydran Beaty and Bruce Massey Jr were next in line with 14 and 12 points respectively.
The Magic now travel to Halifax to play the Hurricanes Thursday the 22nd, after which they will head to Saint John a week later to play the Riptide March 29th.
